Heading to the 2013 Inglis Australian Weanling and Bloodstock Stock Sale, Rosemont Stud walked away with four mares and one racehorse.
The first mare we purchased was Lot 289, Madamex (Cape Cross x Gold Fair, by Made Of Gold) for $18,000. From the draft of Yarraman Park Stud, the mare was carrying a positive test to Fastnet Rock’s G3-winning, G1 placed son Hinchinbrook, himself a half-brother to successful sire Snitzel.
From a family known very well by Rosemont Stud, Madamex is out of a full-sister to the stakes placed Gold Anthem, who is in turn the dam of our new stallion recruit Starspangledbanner (pictured below right). It is very much a family full of stakes performers, including the G1 winners Elvstroem and Hradasun, as well as their G1 AJC Oaks-winning dam Circles Of Gold.
The second purchase was Lot 302, Recorrido (Rubiton x Hatley, by Marauding) for $72,000 from the draft of Newhaven Park Stud as agent. Offered in foal to Henry Field’s Newgate Farm’s G1-winning son of Fastnet Rock in Foxwedge, Recorrido was the winner of four races and just shy of $200,000 in career earnings and this is her first season at stud.
The third mare purchased by the farm was Lot 446, Suite (Stravinsky x Cousins, by Danehill) from the draft of Princess Farm for the $14,000. Offered with a positive test to the G1 AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor, Suite is a half-sister to Listed winner Related as well as the G2 placed Generosa, who is in turn the dam of the G2-winning, G1 placed No Evidence Needed.
The dam of four to the races for three winners, this well pedigreed mare is a great addition to the Rosemont Stud broodmare band.
The final mare purchased was another from the draft of Princess Farm, this time Lot 448, Swissac (Secret Savings x Curvaceous, by Zabeel) for $37,000. Having finished third at G3 level and fourth at G1 level, Swissac is a half-sister to Fastnet Rock’s G2 winner Curved Ball as well as the Listed winner Isopach and also comes from the family of G1 winner Grout.
Currently not in foal, this gives Rosemont Stud the opportunity for a nice early covering this season.
Another purchase we made at the sale, while not a mare, was the Lot 491, Pampelonne for $60,000. A winner of the G2 Shorts and the Listed Gosford Guineas, the Rock Of Gibraltar gelding (pictured left) is still only lightly raced, having had 12 starts for 5 wins and just shy of $800,000 in earnings and we feel that he will appreciate racing in Melbourne in the near future!
