The running of the Wyong Magic Millions 3yo Stakes (1200m) on Thursday saw Victorian young gun stallion Toorak Toff (pictured left) jump to the fore again with several links to the star performers in the race.
Crack filly and race favourite the Gai Waterhouse–trained Sweet Idea fought on for a dogged win in the rich race and traditional Magic Millions raceday lead-up.
Already a Group winner of the Group Two Silver Slipper Stakes and Group One Golden Slipper placegetter, Sweet Idea is now pre-post favourite for the Magic Millions 3yo Classic.
So why was Toorak Toff given an extra dipper of feed for that effort? Sweet Idea’s half-sister Marcia Proba (Falbrav) is in foal to the two-time Group One winner and ready to continue the precocious types out of the family.
An even louder cheer went up at the beautiful Gnarwarre property on Geelong’s Barwon River when Estonian Princess loomed into the race on straightening.
The daughter of Snitzel was bred by Rosemont Stud and sold by the farm at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions January sales out of a draft of just six horses.
Another of the six, Fiftyshadesofgrey, was a scratching from Thursday’s race but could yet figure in the big January raceday.
Estonian Princess raced up to the leaders but the class and fitness of Sweet Idea prevailed to see Estonian Princess finish third and grab “run of the race” honours.
Estonian Princess’s mother American-bred, Prized mare Meet My Sis, is already the mother of Group winner Schilling and has produced a gorgeous filly (pictured) by Toorak Toff.
The Scott Aspery-trained Estonian Princess, was purchased by her current owners at the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $65,000.
Having sold a Hard Spun colt out of the mare at this year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, the mare is safely back in foal to the son of Show A Heart, and all are at the farm could not be more pleased.
