Three-time Gr1 winner Volkstok’n’barrell (Tavistock-Volkster, by Volksraad) is in outstanding order ahead of his upcoming weight-for-age campaign, reports NZ Racing Desk.
The Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs-trained 5YO has not raced since the Queensland winter carnival where he finished third in the Gr2 Hollindale Stakes before a fourth placing in the Gr1 Doomben Cup.
“I’ve never had him any better than he is right now,” Logan said. “Chris and I can’t believe it – he looks incredible.”
The Rosehill Guineas, WFA Classic and New Zealand Stakes winner is scheduled to step out at the Ruakaka trials on 4 October before resuming in the Gr3 Lion Red Plate at Rotorua 11 days later.
“The handicapper has told us that he would be getting 63 or 64 kilos in a handicap and even a claim wouldn’t help him so it will be all weight-for-age racing,” Logan said.
“He’ll run in the Tauranga Stakes on November 12 and then maybe the Captain Cook Stakes [Gr1] at Trentham before the Zabeel Classic [Gr1] at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.”
