Hong Kong-based owners Sweetbriar Equine, who last week purchased the top-priced horse at the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale for $420,000, went to $280,000 yesterday to secure a colt by Smart Missile at the Gold Coast.
Catalogued as Lot 52, the Rosemont Stud-consigned colt is the fourth living foal out of SAJC Oaklands Plate (Listed, 1400m) winner Class Apart (French Deputy).
He had been purchased by Rosemont Stud for $65,000 at the MagicM illions Adelaide Yearling Sale earlier this year.
Operated by Karl Chan and David Lui, Sweetbriar Equine held off the competition to purchase the colt, who breezed up in 10.56 seconds at the Seymour session conducted by Magic Millions.
“We like the pedigree and he is a very strong horse who walks really well. In our opinion he is the standout horse in the sale,” Lui told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“We won’t be rushing him to make him a two-year-old horse and we will wait and see how is going in a few months’ time.”
Lui said Sweetbriar Equine already owns a two-year-old by Smart Missile who was showing promise.
“We bought one earlier this year as a yearling and at this stage he looks good and progressed well,” he said.
“He looks like being a three-year-old and, like this horse, we won’t be rushing him.”
