Icon Shows Heart Of Gold

Darren Weir’s dominance of the lucrative VOBIS Gold Race Series continued at The Valley on Friday thanks to the fighting win of Iconoclasm in the $150,000 VOBIS Gold Star (1500m).

The son of Toorak Toff was ridden positively by John Allen to settle on the speed and never really looked in danger of defeat, taking the lead at the furlong and racing away to defeat Widgee Turf by a length in a slick 1.29.95s.

Weir has been to the fore in the popular series – the VOBIS Gold Race Series is for Victorian-bred horses only – with the likes of Trust In A Gust, May’s Dream and the recently-retired Burning Front.

Like Trust In A Gust and May’s Dream, Weir believes Iconoclasm has Group 1 potential and said he was likely to give the four-year-old a chance to realise it in next Saturday’s Kennedy Mile (1600m) at Flemington.
