Further down the page are a pair of 2yo Group 1 winners in KINDACROSS and SKY CHASE.
LOT 334; FRANKEL – FURNIVAL colt

By Snitzel first season sire INVADER, co-champion 2yo of his generation and winner of the Gr 1 ATC Sires Produce.

Royal Academy is a wonderfully consistent and proven broodmare sire with over 7% stakes winners to runners.
A half sister to Group 1 winner ARAPAHO MISS (the mother of star mare MIAMI BOUND), the colt’s mother produced a Starspangledbanner colt who sold for $220,000 to the bid of Ciaron Maher at the 2020 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. She has a Shamus Award colt at foot.

Pivotal is currently second in the Irish broodmare sire table and he leads the broodmare sire table in Great Britain – ahead of Galileo, Danehill Dancer, Dansili and Oasis Dream. LOT 678; STARSPANGLEDBANNER – QUIFF filly
Starspangledbanner filly out of a Group 1 winning mare.
By proven sire Starspangledbanner, this filly is out of Sadler’s Wells mare QUIFF, winner of the Gr 1 Yorkshire Oaks as a 3yo filly against older horses and runner up in the Gr 1 English St Leger. Quiff went on to throw six winners in England and Ireland before being imported to Australia. This is her first southern hemisphere bred foal.
Suffering early fertility problems and low volume crops at the beginning of his stud career, Starspangledbanner nevertheless built a quality stud record and he still strikes at over 8% stakes winners to runners. His best horse, the 2yo Gr 1 and Gr 2 winner THE WOW SIGNAL, is out of a High Chaparral mare and therefore bred on the same cross as this filly. His best horse in Australia – HOME OF THE BRAVE – is out of a Beat Hollow mare, also a son of Sadler’s Wells.
Sadler’s Wells was the champion broodmare sire in England and Ireland for six consecutive seasons and his daughters have produced nearly 350 stakes winners. As a broodmare sire he still strikes at over 12% stakes winners to runners and has been represented most recently through ENABLE.
LOT 746; DEEP FIELD – SARONG colt

LOT 783; TORONADO – SHEEN colt
One of only two colts in the sale by Swettenham’s popular young stallion TORONADO.
A Gr 1 winner at Royal Ascot, TORONADO is one of the rising stars in Australian breeding, covering close to 1,000 mares over his first six seasons to season 2020. LOT 786; ZOUSTAR – SHEILA’S STAR filly
Zoustar filly from a fast family.
Third foal from the Snitzel mare Sheila’s Star, runner up in a Gr3 and Listed placed twice – significant considering 12 of Zoustar’s 16 stakes winners are out of stakes performed mares.

Note that Zoustar has shown an affinity with Danehill line sired mares with stakes winners out of mares by Not A Single Doubt, Fastnet Rock, Magnus, Al Maher, Flying Spur and Snitzel’s father Redoute’s Choice, who appears 3×2 in the pedigree of dual Gr2 winner HAUT BRION HER and – like this filly – 3×3 in the pedigree of stakes winner SOLAR STAR.

The first of those crops are at this year’s yearling sales – expect an uptick in 2yo stakes winners from Spirit of Boom next season.
This filly’s mother Sugar Babe was a fast early 2yo herself – she won the Debutante Stakes and was runner up in the Gr 2 Blue Diamond Prelude and Gr 2 Magic Night Stakes before running sixth on a heavy track in Sebring’s Golden Slipper. A champion racehorse who won Gr1 races in four different countries, Starcraft’s progeny continue to be popular with yearlings last season selling for $320k and $340k. His popularity is driven by his racing progeny in Hong Kong, where he has regularly been a Top 10 sire with horses such as BLIZZARD, WINNER’S WAY, CONTE, COUNTRY STAR, JING JING WIN and HOUSE OF FUN flying the flag.
Starcraft’s success in Hong Kong has seen his stock become sought after at Australasian Breeze Up sales, where in the last five years his colts have sold to $360,000 at an average of over $115,000.
This colt’s mother was unraced but her mother won twice at sprint distances and she sent seven foals to the races who all won, two of them stakes horses at sprint distances.
